OBITUARY OF NELSON FRANK STEINBAUGH

Nelson Frank Steinbaugh, 90, died November 3, 2008 at Punta Gorda FL. He was born January 15, 1918, at Baptist Hill, Ontario County, NY to Walter Henrich Steinbaugh and Carrie Aleine Stone Steinbaugh. He graduated from Canandaigua Academy and attended St. Lawrence University.
He married Hilda Marie Wyckoff of Canandaigua on June 1, 1941, a harmonious union that lasted until his death. Soon after their wedding, he entered the Armed Forces and served as Regimental Motor Transportation Master Sergeant throughout WWII.
Honorably discharged in 1946, he resumed his position in the New York State Department of Corrections where he served in maximum-security facilities throughout the state for 36 years. In 1978, he built a home in Punta Gorda, FL where he moved in 1980 upon his retirement as Deputy Superintendent of Security at Sing Sing Prison, Ossining, NY.
He was a licensed real estate and mortgage broker from 1980 until his death.
He was an avid genealogist and traced two lines of his family and two lines of his wife’s family to their roots in Europe, establishing that each family had members who served in the American Revolution.
He was a 60-year, life member of Masonic Lodge No. 462 in Attica NY, a perpetual life member of the Scottish Rite of The Valley of Ft. Myers, 32nd Degree Lodge, a noble of the Araba Shrine Temple, Ft. Myers, FL, a life member of the National Association Legions of Honor AAONMS, a life member of the Masonic War Veterans of the State of New York, Genesee-Wyoming Post No. 432, a life member of the American Legion where he was a Past Commander in New York, a member of the 40/8 where he was Past Chef de Gare, 40/8 Wyoming County, NY, a member of the Sons of the American Revolution, a charter member of the Punta Gorda Elks No. 2606, a life member of the I.O.O.F. Citizen’s Lodge No. 309, Attica, NY, and a member of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge No. 66, Charlotte County, FL.
He leaves his beloved wife, Hilda Marie Steinbaugh of Punta Gorda, FL, his brother Norman H. Steinbaugh (Ann) of Attica, NY, three sons, Lt.Col. Eric Steinbaugh USMC Ret. (Myrian) of Punta Gorda, FL, Chief Marc S. Steinbaugh USMM Ret. (Cathy) of Cape Haze, FL, Kurt R. Steinbaugh (Debra) of Newland, NC, three grandsons, Cdr. Leif E. Steinbaugh, USN (Yoko) of NAS Whidbey Island, WA, Kyle E. Steinbaugh (Allison) of Bend, OR, Jordan Clark Steinbaugh of Newland, NC, a granddaughter, Emily Kaitlyn Steinbaugh of NC, two great grandsons, Hayden and Harrison Steinbaugh and a great granddaughter, Harper Steinbaugh all of Bend, OR, and two step grand children, Fabiane Lopes of Campinas, Brazil and Henrique Lopes of Punta Gorda, FL.
Arrangements and cremation will be made by Charlotte Memorial Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at a time and place to be announced by the family. Inurnment will be in Arlington National Cemetery.
