Dad,
You lived your life well, you were a good father and friend, and you set an example for us.
Thank you, for being there when I needed you, for believing in me, for your understanding and your guidance, for teaching me to be a man and a father.
We love you and we will miss you,
Kurt

There are so many memories -- some from long ago and some more recent. But you were there, after a few days or many years and always made me a part of your extended family. I will miss your laugh -- which I still hear echoing in my ears sometimes. Thanks, Nelson for more than I can say here. Love, Toot.

to the steinbaughs...

condolences is not enough...

having known nelson and hilda for more than 30 yrs beginning with his time of leadership at the Sing Sing prison in NY it has been an honor and a pleasure to have been a part of he and hilda's lives...

nelson's sense of country, family and friendship transcends the normal flow of social contact and says a great deal about the man, the husband, the father, the grandfather and the great grandfather he became.

it was an enriching experience to have known the man and his family and I hope it has been that way for others that have been touched by nelson's 'hand.'

Rest in peace, nelson and all my best and love to hilda as well...

I am grateful for the time spent sharing stories with Nelson until just a couple of yrs. ago. My life is richer and wiser. Nelson, I never did make it in person to demonstrate a Cajun hug, I shall send detailed instructions in my prayers, and demonstrate if I ever make it up there. To all the Steinbaughs, especially Marc and Hilda, my deepest sympathy is being sent to you.

I met Nelson and Hilda 25 years ago and for 23 years have been honored to be their daughter-in-law. Nelson was so proud of his family, friends and country. He instilled in his sons a great work ethic that is evident in all that they have accomplished. He also showed us all the value of a good friend, for Nelson enjoyed nothing better than to be with friends and family enjoying a good story or a good laugh. As a family and as friends we will continue to have good times and make new memories but these times will never be the same without you Pop and memories made will never be as good as when re-told by you.
Love Debra Steinbaugh

Grandpa,

You taught me many, many things. Some were mundane, some were difficult for me to understand and some I am still realizing the importance of. However, all have been valuable to me in realizing where I came from, who I am and who I want to be.
Your legacy lives on in your sons, your grandkids and your great-grandkids. You will be missed. Thank you.

To the Steinbaugh family,
I was so sorry to hear of Nelson's passing and extend our sympathy to all of you. I have many fond memories of staying at your house in Attica and of many get togethers with our families. I stopped to visit a couple of years ago in Punta Gorda and had a wonderful visit. I enjoyed his e-mails and began to wonder a while ago because they stopped coming as often. He was so proud of his family and hopefully the many fond memories you all have will sustain you now.

Mr. Steinbaugh (or Nelson, as you always told me to call you),

I can't help but believe you are somewhere, watching all this play out, smiling a smile of satisfaction that comes from a life well spent and a job well done. You will live on, in lives you have touched, in the words and deeds that will be spoken of for generations to come by all who knew you.
Thank you for the pleasure of allowing me to know you.

Desejamos toda força necessária a toda familia...
